I'm so glad y'all really seemed to enjoy my last video about why Hollywood will fail. It was such a labor of love and I was absolutely delighted (and horrified) at the conversation it sparked in the comments.
I'm not sure why the algorithm thought to send this to all the grumpy old men on youtube but I appreciate the engagement 😅
My next video is also a topic that is very near to my heart as a voice actor and gamer and it's going to be titled....
Why Gaming Will Destroy Movies and Shows/Hollywood
The Outline
Movies and TV shows had their golden age, but let’s be real—gaming is about to leave Hollywood in the dust.
Part 1: Immersion That Movies Can’t Touch
Gaming isn’t just about watching a story unfold—it’s about stepping into it. You’re not just watching a hero save the world; you are the hero. Whether it’s shaping a character’s destiny or deciding who lives and who doesn’t (I’m looking at you, Mass Effect players), games make the stakes personal in a way Hollywood never could. Because sitting in a movie theater yelling ‘don’t go in there!’ at the screen just isn’t the same as actually making that call.
Part 2: Replayability and Choice
Games don’t just end when the credits roll. You can replay with different choices, explore hidden secrets, or mod the entire experience until it’s unrecognizable. Meanwhile, Hollywood’s idea of variety is a reboot of a sequel to a franchise we stopped caring about 10 years ago
Part 3: Voice Acting Shines in Gaming
As a voice actor, I’ve got to say it: gaming takes voice performance to a whole new level. We don’t just deliver a couple of lines and call it a day. We record hundreds of variations, reacting to every possible player decision. And yet Hollywood still thinks slapping a celebrity name on a video game character is enough (cough Chris Pratt as Mario)
Part 4: Accessibility and Representation
Gaming is evolving faster than Hollywood when it comes to inclusivity and accessibility. Games are giving us more diverse characters, customizable difficulty settings, and real efforts to include players of all backgrounds. Meanwhile, Hollywood is patting itself on the back for adding one queer character to a blockbuster… who gets killed off in the first act.
Part 5: Community and Culture
Gaming isn’t just entertainment; it’s a community. From Twitch to Reddit, players don’t just consume content—they create it. Hollywood keeps us at arm’s length, but gaming invites us to be part of the story. And let’s not forget global appeal. Games like Genshin Impact and Persona 5 are connecting with audiences everywhere, while Hollywood keeps rehashing U.S.-centric stories.
Part 6: Hollywood Can’t Keep Up
While Hollywood’s struggling to figure out the next franchise reboot, gaming is giving us VR worlds, open-ended stories, and technology that evolves every year. Why pay $20 for a movie ticket when you can spend the same on a game that keeps you entertained for months?
Ending: Gaming Is the Future
Whether it’s immersion, creativity, or sheer replay value, gaming is redefining what entertainment looks like. Hollywood had its time, but the gamers are taking over. And honestly? I’m here for it. And that's not to say I think movies and shows will be totally obsolete... just different. The only consistent thing in life is change. And I think we'll simply stop watching films and tv and actually experience them instead. Cut scenes will be huge and more interactive. We'll be a part of the story like never before. And I think this means we'll actually have MORE working actors and crew.
But what do you think? Let me know in the comments and I can't wait to start production on this video!
